Karen Sterling, PhD, CFA, has had a twenty-year career at the intersection of healthcare, biotechnology, and finance. Prior to joining Kingswood Capital Partners, she was Managing Director of Healthcare Investment Banking at Avalon Net Worth, where she practiced strategic advisory, fundraising, and filled transitional C Suite roles for clients.
Dr. Sterling took a 17-month sabbatical from Avalon to serve as President & CEO of the New York Society of Security Analysts (nka CFA Society New York), where she orchestrated a financial and operational turnaround of the organization, enhancing its status as a leading finance education forum.
In 2018, she was Executive-in-Residence at The Rockefeller University, providing strategic and commercialization guidance to a premier RNA and mRNA research laboratory. Additionally, she is widely published in the field of fixed income securities.
Dr. Sterling holds two Masters degrees and a PhD degree from Columbia University in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics. She earned her CFA Charter in 2006. She maintains FINRA Series 7, 16, 63, 79, 86, and 87 registrations. Dr. Sterling is the only equity research analyst in history to update her coverage by satellite while working as a research scuba diver at a remote field camp on the Antarctic continent.
